Another unusual dermatological presentation
I guess we all see these from time to time -much more commonly in cats than in dogs. Slightly bizarre horny projections from the digital footpads -a bit like a second claw. These are known as cutaneous horns and, in affected animals, they are often present on all digits. Usually they are an incidental finding. Occasionally they can be sore when developing on the weight-bearing surface. The traditional list of causes includes FeLV infection but, despite testing quite a few cats, I’ve never seen a cat with cutaneous horns test positive (and I’ve never seen an FeLV positive cat develop horns). Other viral causes are perhaps commoner causes.
