Oedema of the mesenteric root: a specific sign of mesenteric torsion?
That’s never the kind of thing you like to see really. First impression is that this looks very likely to be a mesenteric torsion in this Akita with acute abdomen.
I wrote a blog post about sonographic features of mesenteric torsions a while back:
I find colonic and mesenteric torsions easier to confirm sonographically than gastric dilation/volvulus because the compromised blood vessels can be visualised more consistently.
I’ve realised subsequently that oedema of the mesenteric root is also a common sonographic feature in mesenteric twists and I suspect that this is a relatively specific finding.
