Canine pancreatic duct dynamics
This amazing video shows a wave of contraction passing along a dog’s accessory pancreatic duct towards the minor papilla on the descending duodenum:
With still images this is a ‘bolus’ of pancreatic juice in transit and waiting to be released into the duodenum:
Little has been written about pancreatic duct function in cats and dogs. However, they appear to have propulsive smooth muscle action:
At least in people accessory duct outflow appears to be regulated by a sphincter mechanism akin to the sphincter of Oddi.

That may explain why pancreatic juice accumulates into a ‘bolus’before expulsion into the duodenum in the video.
One of my favorite videos demonstrated multiple pancreatic calculi rolling within the duct in response to the flow of the juices. You could clearly observe that there was a directional flow to the fluid towards the papilla. Unfortunately , it is one of the few videos that I lost tract of where I stored it . Of all the sequences that I had to loose it had to be that one. One day I will retrieve it again and share it with you. It was beautiful.
