Why skin scrapes are always a good idea
This is Lola’s back end. She’s been itchy for months. Had Advocate spot-on -no better. No lesions anywhere else; she just spends her evenings chewing the left side of her rump.
So, it should be flea allergic dermatitis, maybe anal gland impaction, possibly a pug tail issue…..no?
No! Just on auto-pilot, I scraped her scabby patch and wowser, Sarcoptes eggs! Really, I was mainly doing it to rule out the possibility of Demodex injae which can certainly cause truncal itch. But goes to prove that if you don’t look you don’t find.
Remains to be seen if a more intensive course of Advocate will do the job.
